LARGE GUATEMALAN JADEITE JADE MAYAN CARVING
This is a huge carving! It was made from a speckled "mint" jade with a really pretty crust. I love how it didn't need to be cut on the bottom to get it to set well. The natural shape of the stone makes it rest perfectly on it's on. The crust it rests on is very smooth and feels good to touch. The Mayan carvings are very eye catching, with the 2 faces and macaw headdress. Look at that tongue! Did you know that Mayan shaman pierced their tongue in ceremonies and dripped the blood on paper bowls to be burnt? Yes they did, to see visions in the smoke (vision serpent) and I think that is what is about to happen here!
This carving was made at our shop in Copan Ruinas, Honduras by a descendant of the Chor'ti Maya.
