    Description

    HANDWOVEN TABLE COVER.
    ....
This weaving has never been used, but it was made in the 1990's in the town of Nebaj in the Ixil Triangle of the northern highlands of Guatemala.  It is a product of a weaving group associated with an aid programme that was working in the area at that time. It is an area where many people were killed, towns destroyed and thousands left homeless due to the military-guerrilla fighting in the late 70's and early 80's. There were very few visitors to the area at that time. Our State Dept., said it was unsafe to travel in the area.  At that time I hiked and traveled extensively in the area and saw first hand the people's problems.
This weaving is 100% cotton and can be used as a table cover or whatever,
IT IS ALSO GREAT FOR PICNICS!!
The back is the same as the front, it measures 29 inches wide and 60 inches long with out the fringe.  Since it was woven on a back strap loom there are 2 pieces sewn together.  You can not tell where it was sewn, the seam is in one of the pictures.  Cold water wash.
The best thing about this weaving is: it is a Fair Trade item.  The weavers set the wages they wanted paid.  A couple of the pictures are of some of the weavers.
I have been involved in Fair Trade since the 1980's. Thank you for your support!
