Antique Vintage Guatemalan Woodcarving Monkey Mask for Traditional Dance. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail. This monkey mask was likely used in La Danza del Venado (the Deer Dance) which features lots of different animals. I purchased it in February 1986 in Chichicastenango at a mask maker's shop that furnished traditional costumes and masks for dances in the region (known as a moreia). I cannot be certain, but likely it was at the shop of the well known mask carver Miguel Ignacio Calel. It certainly was a shop up above the main market area. It is not signed, however. The mask is in good condition and measures approximately 6 1/2 inches tall, 6 3/4 inches ear to ear, and 3 1/4 inches thick.
